The Secret Place: Part 1 **PODCAST TRANSCRIPT**
All right. Psalms chapter 91. And I hope today you have your Bibles with you because I am going to take you through many scriptures, and believe me you do not want to miss what I’m about to show you. This will not only change your life, it will protect your life and it will protect your family because we as God’s church are given promises throughout God’s word that we are protected; and I think the church needs to know this. Especially today. Think about the darkness that’s out there and the wickedness. Think about the craziness that’s going on in the world. You don’t want to send your children out there without knowing God’s promises. The Secret Place.
So let’s start in Psalms chapter 91 verse 1, and I am going to read: He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Now a few things we see here in this scripture that I want to make sure you understand very clearly. First of all, he that dwelleth. The word dwelleth, as you can see, is a continuation. It’s not a one-time prayer. It’s a dwelleth. He that dwelleth in the secret place. So what is the secret place?
Stay In the Secret Place of the Lord Every Day
Well people, I always say on this program and you’ve heard me, that I will stick with the Bible, not my own opinion, not what I’ve heard. But I’m going to show you from the Bible what the secret place is. Now, one thing that I’ve learned from this word of God is that the Bible always answers the Bible. You don’t need to go to some school to teach you how to study the Bible. The Holy Spirit, if you allow Him to, will reveal His truth through His word. And it’s always the Bible that answers the Bible.
So what is the secret place? What does the Bible say about the secret place? Well, look at Psalms 31:20 and let me show you what the secret place is according to the Bible. So turn with me, 31:20, and let me go ahead and read: Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of men. The secret of thy presence. The presence of Jesus is the secret place. That’s why the Bible says wait upon the Lord. What does that mean? Wait. That’s what that means. Wait. Wait for His presence to touch you in prayer.
So many today, they ignore Him. So many today, they just think prayer is just asking Him for things and praying for others. Even though all that’s very important, prayer, the foundation of prayer and foundation of the Christian life should be a one-on-one fellowship with God. That’s it. So the believer’s number one responsibility is a one-on-one relationship with Jesus. Now how do you get to know Him?
By the secret place. You get alone with Him. You have to make time every day for Him and you seek Him. That’s it. You just seek Him. You study the life of the Lord when He was walking on the earth, and all through the gospels you will see that He separated Himself and went and prayed, as an example for us that we must separate ourselves and give the Lord time every day to seek Him. That is His word. And as you do and only those who experience the secret place will abide under the shadow of the Almighty. It is in His presence.
Nothing More Important Than the Presence of Jesus…The Secret Place
You know what a deer does when its enemy is chasing it? When something is chasing it to kill it? You know what a deer does? It runs to the water. That’s right. It runs to the water, because it knows if it gets to that water it will hide its scent from the predator, from its enemy. If God’s people will run to the water of God’s presence, Satan and those demons will never find you. You will be protected under the shadow of the Almighty. It is a truth in God’s word that those who seek the Lord have a hedge around them that no devil can get in. Oh yes, he can cause problems. Oh, he’ll attack you. But he can never destroy you if you’re in the presence of Jesus. Remember that. It’s all about the presence.
If every Christian that can hear the sound of my voice right now would understand and get this one thing, that nothing else is more important than the presence of Jesus, knowing his presence. Because as you get into His presence, not only does it change your life, not only does He give you life, but now He’ll begin to touch others through you because you have experienced His presence, not religion, leave that garbage for someone else.
Not religion, but His presence, the reality, the reality of His presence. And as you begin to know His presence, you will begin to experience protection upon your life. And not only your life, but I want to show you through the life of Abraham how God extended that umbrella over his family and He’s still doing the same thing today for you. Today God is protecting not only you because you spend time in his presence, but He is protecting your children, He’s protecting your family; and it’s all in the word of God.
And so let me show you through Abraham’s life that he had. As you know, we know the story. Abraham had a close relationship with God, and because of that relationship God kept his family safe. Lot was safe and Lot’s family was safe because the destruction was coming upon Sodom and Gomorrah and the Lord said, I cannot destroy … I cannot destroy the city until you get out of here. That’s what the angel said to Lot. So let me show you this in Genesis chapter 19 and I’m going to start with verse 12: And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place.
These angels – the Bible was calling them men but they were angels sent by God – these angels were telling Lot, get everything that belongs to you and get it out of here. We are about to destroy this filthy city called Sodom and Gomorrah. And we will see why here in a second. For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it. And Lot went out, … spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law. In other words, they didn’t believe him. They didn’t listen to him. They didn’t hearken to him. And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, [Rise] Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. And then we see in verse 22: Haste thee, escape hither; for I cannot do anything till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
Because of the Secret Place, There Is Protection
Now listen, the angels of the Lord told Lot, we cannot do anything until you are taken out of here. Why? Because of the relationship God had with Abraham. And He does the same today for His people. He does the same for His people. So the foundation of the Christian life is one thing – the presence of Jesus. Forget about all the religious stuff, forget about all the traditions, and seek the face of the Lord. This takes separation. This takes waiting upon the Lord. Not – I have to make this clear – prayer is not just begging God for your needs. So many Christians get caught up in that. Prayer, relationship, is all about knowing the presence of Jesus. It’s not experiences. It’s not feelings. Even though His presence does affect your emotions, it does affect your feelings, but it’s all about knowing who Jesus is, in His presence. And as you get to know His presence, that’s when His voice becomes clear to you. And that’s when the leading of the Holy Spirit becomes clear to you. In His presence. Outside His presence? Forget it. There is no leading. There is no voice. Only in the presence of Jesus will you hear His voice and will you discern the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Now the Bible declares we are to live a life given onto God, separated from the world. For the Bible declares, come out from among them, be ye separated. So why, or how I should say, can we be strong in the Lord? First, that foundation. Know His presence. Seek Him daily. Give Him time. I don’t care what you have to do. No excuses. His presence is more important than that TV show. His presence is more important than some of those friends. You may have to give up something. You may have to wake up an hour early. But every day separate yourself to the Lord just to be in His presence. And you will find you don’t have to beg Him for your needs. You don’t have to plead and bang the floor and all this stuff, because all He looks for is relationship. And as you seek Him, He’ll become close to you.
Now we as believers have a responsibility. We are commanded in Ephesians chapter 4 verse 27 not to open doors for Satan in our life. So, first we seek the Lord for His presence. We get to know Him. Not of Him like religious people do, and not beg Him for all our needs and beg Him for this and beg Him for that. But we ask Him, of course, that’s what the Bible teaches us to do – ask. And then the next day, ask again. Keep bringing it to His attention. Seek and you shall find. Knock and it shall be opened. So we should seek the Lord and we should also ask Him for our needs. But we do not need to beg. We do not need to plead with Him. We just seek Him. And as you get to know Him deeper, as you seek Him just for His presence, as you seek Him just to be with Him, then you’ll see prayers come to pass. Doors that you didn’t even ask for will begin to open.
It’s amazing what the Lord will do for you if you just seek Him. It’s not about this and asking for that and begging for that, it’s just seeking Him. And once you do, He gladly gives you the needs of your life. So, once you have that accomplished, you and I are commanded to live a holy life. That doesn’t mean we’re perfect. That doesn’t mean we will not make mistakes. But Jesus said, be thou perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect. He was telling us, knowing that not one of us can be perfect, not one of us can live this life without making mistakes.
But he was telling us, desire it. Go after it. Desire it with all your heart. To just please him. Isn’t that … to me it’s common sense. If you love him, you don’t want to hurt him. If you love Him, you’re going to hate your sin. If you love sin, there’s something wrong with your walk. So yes, we need to strive towards holiness. We need to desire it with our whole hearts. And when we make mistakes and when we fail, we just repent and we say, “We’re sorry Lord” and we start over. We pick ourselves up and we go again. We never give up.
Be careful Of Your Association, It Can Bless You or Curse You
But there are three requirements. Three doors that I want to talk about that we can protect ourselves. Now I’m talking about protecting yourselves from Satan’s attacks, from his plans, because he is continually wanting to destroy us. Remember that. As you begin to seek the Lord, he’s going to come after you with everything he has. And now there’s three things that I want to show you that will protect you, and Satan or his demons will never get in.
One is association. Be careful who you associate with. They could destroy your Christian walk. Look at Ecclesiastes chapter 9 verse 18, and let’s start looking at this. I think this is very important, that God’s people understand what the Bible says about living a holy life and living that blessed life. And you can only do it by first being in His presence. And then we have to walk the life out and go after holiness, go after righteousness. And one, like I told you, the first door I want to talk about is association and that’s found in chapter 9 verse 18 of Ecclesiastes. That’s verse 18 of chapter 9: Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroyeth much good. So we see that the Bible says a sinner, a sinner can destroy much good. But how did Jesus walk around and hang out with sinners? It’s very simple. Those who pull from you, those are the ones that the Holy Spirit is working on. Those who try to push you into their lifestyle are the ones that Satan is trying to influence you now.
Because association with the wrong person can bring you down. If you think you can continually walk into Satan’s camp and be strong over and over, he will eventually get in. But if you, being led by the Holy Spirit, administer to those who the Holy Spirit is already working with, already convicting, that that ground is moist, that ground is ready to be ministered to, that that ground is ready to receive God’s word and then salvation. So it’s very important to be careful who you associate with.
Look at Proverbs 22. That’s Proverbs chapter 22. And I’m going to start with verse 24. Proverbs 22 verse 24 declares: Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man, thou shall not go. Lest thou learn his ways and get a snare to thy soul. So, some Christians think, “Oh, I can just hang out with anybody and the Holy Spirit will protect me.” No, no. That’s not the way it works. You have to protect your Christian life. You have to protect the anointing that’s on your life. The association is so important. We must get this in the body of Christ. Come out from among them. Be ye separate. Be ye separated. So we have to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will reveal to us who to minister to. And eventually you will begin to recognize it instantly. “All right, this one here the Holy Spirit’s working on. I can begin to minister in that ground.” As I said before, it’s moist. It’s ready to be ministered to. Because the Holy Spirit has been working in that person’s life, in the heart of that person, whether it’s through Christian television they watch in private at home. And now the Holy Spirit’s working with them and here you come, whether it’s at work, in your business, wherever, on the street and now you begin to get in. Now the heart is open and you can get that gospel within them and you will win that soul.
You have to protect your eyes. You have to protect everything that God has given you, and especially the anointing on your life. Why would any Christian want to associate with garbage? I do not understand. Once you come out of it and experience the glorious freedom, why would anybody want to go back into that? I don’t understand that. But anyways, association is very important. And I want to show you one more scripture concerning association, in Romans chapter 16. And I hope you’re writing some of this down so you can go back later and just go back over the scriptures and do your own study. That’s all I’m doing really. I’m just sharing with you what the Holy Spirit has shared with me. How He has changed my life. What I came out of. Today I don’t even recognize me because I’m a different person because of the power of the Holy Spirit and because of the presence. I’ll tell you, the whole Christian life to me is about the presence of Jesus. I’m not going to hold back. I’m going to tell you. It is about the presence of Jesus. Not experiences. Not emotions. Not goose bumps. I’m talking about the reality of God in your life. That is the foundation. If you will get that, your life would be dramatically changed and you won’t be able to help but tell others because it’s something within you now.
Your life has been changed and now you’ve got to tell others. This is the way. The Holy Spirit. The presence of Jesus. It’s the way to go.
So look at Romans chapter 16. One more scripture about association. Romans 16 verse 17: Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which you have learned; and avoid them.
Beware of Religious Hypocrites Who Attack Other Christians
Now this is very powerful. I could do a whole message on this because today, in the church itself, not even talking about the world, just the church itself, you have individuals who are influenced by demons who are actually dividing the church. You have these individuals who are tearing the church down and going after the ministers and going after other Christians viciously. Not just warning them, but viciously going after them and viciously talking about them, making movies about them, writing books about them, and all this garbage. This is not the Holy spirit. This is a demon spirit stirring these individuals up.
And if you have listened to my past programs, you will know there is a spirit of slumber, which is the religious spirit. And that can be found in Romans 11. Let me just double-check that real quick. Yes, it’s Romans 11 verse 8. That spirit of slumber is a religious spirit and has taken many in the body of Christ. And these people, they are very easy to discern. They divide, they attack, and they viciously go after other Christians. So, you know, the Bible tells us to warn others. In Titus, it tells us to tell them once, tell them twice. But these individuals go after, viciously go after, other Christians because of doctrine, because they don’t agree with their doctrine. So they viciously go after them. And these are led, these are people being led by a demon spirit, not by the Holy Spirit. So we must be very careful of who we associate with, even in the church. If you know somebody who just likes to tear down other Christians, get away from them quickly because that garbage will affect your life. You do not want to associate with that.
But look, let me go on here. Matter of fact, let me read 17 and 18 again, and I am running out of time already. Can you believe that? So verse 17 of Romans 16: Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which you have learned; and avoid them. Get away from them. Verse 18: For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple. So very important to understand that your association is very important. You have to fight for your Christian life. You have to fight to keep that anointing strong in your life. If you don’t, you will get weak. Satan will get in eventually. So you have to stay strong. And one of those ways is by association.
So first – let me close with this – first, the presence of Jesus. Seek the Lord with all your heart. Separate time every day with Him. Give Him some of your time. That’s all He’s waiting for. Every day He’s looking to see if you will give Him a little of your time. And when you come to Him, don’t come to Him begging. Don’t come to Him telling Him all your problems. He knows everything. Yes, you can ask for this and that, whatever you need. But spend this time waiting on the Lord. Play some beautiful worship music in the background and just wait upon the Lord. Wait for His presence to touch you, and that’s the time you ask. That’s the time you say, “Lord, you know this issue and I need help with this issue” and He will do it.
I’ll tell you people, if you seek Him for His presence, you won’t have to beg him for nothing. He’ll take care of you. Because His children will never be seen begging for bread, the Bible says. So we seek Jesus. And then we begin to protect our life, our Christian life. We begin to protect what God has done with us and one was by association. And next week I’m going to continue and I’m going to tell you how else you can protect your Christian life. Do not miss next week.
